am I correct in thinking that a pilot bearing is a throwout bearing??? if so, wouldn't all 5-speed cars have them???

no a pilot bearing and a throw out bearing are two completely separate things. All manual cars have a throw out bearing and that is what disengages the clutch. But not all manuals have a pilot bearing which is what is used to most rear wheel drive vehicles to support the weight of the input shaft of the tranny

ok, thanks for that info... I didn't know the difference... I have only talked to the 3000GT guys... and I've heard of both, but assumed that they were the same... it makes more sense now...
