Kids car, a 95 Olds 88 with 3800 supercharged engine, developed an engine knock. Sounds like a rod bearing or piston. My question is, can I swap the supercharged engine with a regular 3800 in this car? Will there be computer problems? Engine has 260,000 miles so if it's to be fixed, it would be a complete overhaul. I just want to get it up and running so he can trade it in when he gets enough money together in 3 or 4 months. One other posibility is if I get a used 3800 without supercharger and just use the short block from that, put the supercharger top end on and have it run good to get him by. They tell me this is the K series engine so I'm wondering if the short blocks are the same. This may be the best way to go, since I doubt I'll be able to find a supercharged engine to drop in, without paying too much.

I think you are opening a can of worms up, try and find a used supercharged engine and put it in. Cuz if you try to put in the regular engine there probably is some kinds of different sensors that it has vs the regular engine. It isn't compatabile unless you want to do a lot of retro fitting.
