BOTH kinds of Clearcoat bubbling on decals??

So I've finished the body and paint and decalwork on the Bobby Allison Monte Carlo... I tried both Dupli-color and Tamiya clearcoat on a test piece... the Dupli-color caused the Fred Cadey decals to disintegrate, and the Tamiya clearcoat appears to have little bubbles, but ONLY in spots over top of the decals. Are there any other solutions? I'd hate to leave this thing matte :banghead:

It's an old question Tigeraid: I never had troubles with TS13 (my actual preferred clearcoat) whit thin coats: I still using it also as a sealer for my self-printed decals :)
BUT I'VE A QUESTION RELATED: have anyone used 2 part POLIACRYLIC clearcoat over laquer and decals? I purchase those that is hot-nitro based and the better POLIURETANIC 2 part kind which have a softer kind of thinner, but cos a lot more 3 or 4 times more. I guess I'll try on an old crap.

Mr. Color Gloss Clear Coat. I use it whenever I've done decalling, and I can lay it on wet with no problems.

Try decanting some of the clear into a jar and spraying it very lighty through an airbrush. After about three mist coats that way, hit it (again very lightly is the key) from the can. Only after you've built up a barrier to the decals can you finaly give it a wet coat. Even then not too wet or the solvents will breat through to the decals. That is the way I've been doing it for a while now and have yet to badly damage a decal. Although I've had the odd scare when I got too blase.
EDIT: I'm talking from experience with Tamiya's TS-13. If you've ascertained the Duplicolor is hotter then it migh not be worth the risk to use further.

TS-13 gives me the best results and to be honest, i mostly attribute this to the fact that i usually use TS sprays for body color., i do i few really light mist coats, as in, the can is about 16 inches away from the model and i just mist the car with decals every 15-20 minutes or so. i do this about 5-8 times then let dry for a day or two. then i lightly wet sand.then i do a coat or two of medium spray, 8 inches away from model. i then let this dry for 2-3 days. then i wet sand the whole thing and start in with some heavier coats until a satisfying clear coat is produced. I do like Gunze clear (acrylic) as well but its hard to find and dries really slow in my opimion. Just be patient i guess...

Interesting... thanks guys, I'll take the leap and try several fine mist coats on the body instead of a few heavy ones. Wish me luck :uhoh:
