Ok, heres the deal. I've got a pretty good job lined up. Im planning, and starting to collect the parts for a V6-V8 swap. Im planning on getting A 350 C.I. SBC 260 Hp 350 FT/LBS torque with 4-bolt mains (Jegs # 809-10067353 ) Now im pretty confident with picking out the right parts for the motor and putting it in. but im confused about the ignition. Im wanting rev control and be able to plug into my tach. can someone point me in the right direction? Hows this work? battery to igntion module to coil to distributor? any tid bits would be helpful
Thanks
John

why would you want a rev limiter? as far as the wiring goes, if your six cylinder is carberated then all the wiring you need is already there. that is assuming youre putting another carberated engine in it. all you realy need to change is the moter mounts, i am not sure if 350 will bolt to that transmission , if it does, good . if not , depending on your gearing in the rear end you may need to get a 700r4 ar a turbo tranny, if you need to change transmissions then youll have to change the drive shaft and the crossmember. another thing , im not sure if the tach will still work properly with this engine swap, i did a swap from a 3.1 to a 350 . and mine still works fine

You should get a "Crane" fireball ignition setup. It just wouldn't be right any other way.

the trams won'r bolt up, you're going from a 60 degree stroke cycle motor to a 90.

thanks for the advice...i know that the trans i have wont bolt up...im getting a heavy duty remanufactured trans (700r4)......i figured im shooting for 3.73 gears.....i have yet to decide if i should old school it , or make everything like it was on a 1984 z28, except for the 5.7 instead of the 5.0, like a 1984 z28 clone..i just wont put any badges on from a z28.. keep it base model looking..either way its going to be carburated......the drivetrain is my specialty, I get lost on ignition/electronics..........can someone tell me the basics of after-market ignition? i'm in no hurry, i'm just making a game plan

Basicly, if your gonna go with a non-computer controlled carb then the 'aftermarket systems' like a MSD ignition box takes the place of the ECM controlling spark curve.

You can take a look into a company called jacobs electronics. I have heard good things about them.

i think i understand the basics now. right now im thinking i want to put the v8 in exactly like the 305 "HO" would have just with 45 more cubes...vaccuum hoses, wiring and all.....i'll probably change my mind several times still....

I LOVE my Jacobs Pro Street system. Tons of spark energy more than any other system I looked at (including MSD, Mallory, accel and Crane). It comes as a complete system and it uses the spark plug as a in cylinder combustion tester. Plus I increased the gap from a .055 gap to .075 and no one missfire. I wouldn't normally go that wide of a gap but was just testing shit. Also just for some info, Jacobs was bought out by Mr.Gasket. So you can find info for them now on www.mrgasket.com (http://www.mrgasket.com) .....
