88 Aerostar Won't Go in gear forward or reverse

I checked every fluid for a trip to the mountains, but I forgot to check the Transmission fluid. And I also forgot that earlier in the month, that it didnt get right into gear when I wanted to move it.

Well, It made it up the mountain ,with 6 people, and loaded with stuff. But the Engine no longer makes the wheels move. Either forward or reverse.

When I came up to rescue them, I added a quart of fluid, but still no movement, but it did bring it up to full.

Had it towed home.

Is it toast? Is there anything I can do?

The local, best Trans place quotes $1800 for a rebuilt trans, but this car isnt worth that for me.

those tranny's have been known not to make it past 50k without proper care. but if you change the fluid regularly you can get well opver 150k. sounds like you either need to rebuild the tranny or junk it. another option would be to go to a junk yard and find a tranny and hope that it is good.
