I have been reading through the many pages of this forum looking for help on my astro's problem, see "Are we chasing a ghost?"

What do these abbreviations mean: CPI and TBI?

Thank you for understanding!

cpi stands for central port injection and tbi stands for throttle body injection...has to do with how your fuel is injected into the engine

If parts people are asking you which engine you have, the 8th digit of your vin is the engine code. The letter "W" is the CPI (commonly called the "Vortec"), and the letter "Z" is the throttle body injected engine.

CPI means there are individual injector nozzles mounted near the valves for each cylinder controlled by a central unit that includes the Fuel pressure regulator. It is very similar to multiport fuel injection.

TPI means all 6 cylinders share the same injectors (2 in this particular example) mounted in the throttle body itself. TPI is very similar to a carburetor, only an electronic version of it.

Leave them old post alone or you may wake up a ghost. :grinyes:
Check the date on them and if they are old let them rest in peace.
If you need help with that missfire or anything post your problem here and someone will try to help.
Give use all of the info you can on it.
Year make and model and engine sise and engine code 8th no in vin and transmission and mileage and state and describe your problem.
