Fuel filter problem?

So i was drving down the freeway the other day and my car shut off like it didnt have any gas. I got it towed back to my house and tried to start it and it would take a while to start like 2 min. It would start and then just shut of.. So i was wonderinf WHERE the fuel filter was and if i need to shut aything off befor i take it off... thanks:)

Its underneath by the gas tank. I usually disconnect the battery when dealing with filter (you dont have to.) make sure your in a well ventilated spot too.
