Bucking surging Alero

02 Alero v-6 auto. Going 40 mph and the car is in OD I try to accelerate very slowly to 50 MPH and the car will start to surge and buck. 1500 RPM - 1200RPM. If I acclerate hard no problem. Any ideas???:frown:

Got no clue but Mr. Miyagi will tell you here shorlty..

Mine did that. from 1200-1500 back and fourth. i replased my maf sencer, and i think its salved the problem.

I am having a similar problem with my 2002 alero. When it shifts into 3rd or 4th gear it does that bucking that you describe. Did you find the problem with yours? I have a suspicion that it has something to do with the torque converter not locking up. It will eventually plane out and then stay locked up. If my theory is correct, does anyone have any idea what has actually failed or how I should approach this repair? I know there is a valve that can be replaced. Is it possoble that it is failing? I would like to be able to unplug it to disable it from locking up to see if that does anything. Where do I find this valve and the connection for it?

^^^^^Its also known as chuggle or fishbite. The TCC is controlled by a TCC-PWM solenoid located at the valve body so thats a possibility. Also, GM has TSBs out stating that the throttle position sensor can cause this problem. But replacement of the TPS almost never fixes it.

The problem is you cannot disconnect it because then you will lose everything. Looking from the drivers's side in you'll see a gray 20 way electrical connector at the top of the transmission. Thats where all tranny signals and voltages input. The TCC-PWM solenoid is located under the tranny side cover assembly and is very difficult to replace DIY.

You might try the easier things first like a pan drop consisting of ATF and a screen filter. Also, flaky spark plugs and/or wires can can the bucking or TCC lock/unlock problem.
