How to remove the airbag adapter

i think thats what it is anyway, the momo steeringwheel adapter doesnt fit with it still on. note the pic: its the black circular plastic piece mounted with the yellow wire comming out of it... im afraid if i keep trying my current flathead method im gunna completely destroy it.

any help appresciated.

You have to remove the snap ring in the center of the SIR coil to get it off.
You will always have an SIR light on if you remove your drivers airbag.

im retarted for missing that after all the time i spent in there staring at it. regards to your second comment, the 2 wires tied into the airbag system (green/white) can they not be tied together to complete the circuit for the NC switch that activates the light, or does it need a certain resitance to disable it?

if all else fails ill pull the dash back apart and pull the LED.

Actually without pulling the bulb you can prevent setting codes by getting an airbag simulator. It is a tool that just plugs in where the airbag would that techs use to make sure everything is working properly before actually putting the airbag in so it doesn't blow up in their face as soon as they reconnect the battery. You could just leave that tool plugged in all the time.

By the way, that plastic thing with the wire coming off is called a clockspring, just thought you might like to know (sorry if I sound like a know-it-all, I really don't mean to).

If you was to use a simulator you would have to tuck all that wiring up under the I/P, as it wouldn't fit behind the steering wheel. And technically GM doesn't refer to their SIR coil as a clockspring, Ford does, GM only calls them "SIR Coil". (if you want to get picky).

Yeah, you would have to tuck away the wiring. You are right about the coil, I hadn't even thought about the difference in names between manufacturers when I had originally replied to this.
