is it possible to put a 3.1 liter engine out of another grand am in place of my 2.3 that blew up on me? i like the 3.1 better because its a reliable engine.. i had one in my old grand am and i had 160,000 miles on it and it didnt burn a lick of oil. any help would be appreciated. would i have to change the computer.. can i use my current trans (3 speed) do i need a new fuel pump? thanks for all the help.. if this isnt too bad i may just replace it with the 3.1 and dump the 2.3 al together

Anything is possible if you have the money. First of all you will need a new ECM, wiring harness, motor mounts, exhaust and a host of assorted other items. It is possible that the transmission will work but you may have to change it as well. If you decide to do this try going to a wrecking yard and purchasing a wiring harness for the 3.1 and go from there. Not a bad idea but it may be more effort than it is worth.

Transmission is different, drive axles are different as well. It's alot of work, and personally I like the dohc motor better.
