Well i got the money to get a d16y7 but i dont have a cherry picker ( engine hoist ) so i found one on ebay and i asked my mom if she would get it for me science im paying for the engine she said ok. 3 days later she said she cant get it and i got to wait untill next month. I got mad cause i been wating for a long time and now im just going to order it and put it in myself. First the transmission then block and then the head it might take me a little longer but i want my car running bad..So i want to know everyones opinon on this. Do you think i should or shouldn't do it and give explinations.

i would wait it out... you wouldnt want to damage your fenders or anything.
honda motors are pretty light but still can cause some damage to you or your car. or if you really cant wait...and you just have to have it in...get a few buddies ... its gonna be a pain in the ass. good luck

If your mom is willing to buy it for you, might as well wait. You could save that $ by not buying it, incase you need some more parts (or something needs to be replaced). It's always worth the wait (except for the poor suckers who buy the CTR block, but that's a different story). Take the rest of the time to make sure you have everything you'll need and know exactly what you have to do. I would also recommend attaching the tranny to the short block, and putting them in at the same time; it's much easier to do it that way IMO. And the fact that it's so much quicker with a hoist.

Well i agree with you all but ive been waiting for 5 and a half months for this engine cause my car has just been sitting in my parking lot..Cant stand to just walk to school everyday and just look at it as i go..Also every time my mom says that she is gonna do it she says something is wrong with her finances and cant buy it..So thats why i decided to do it the hard way..And plus i just miss cruzin in my little 4 banger.

Why not just rent one? They only go for like $15-20 a day here.

I don't believe it. There are tons of places that rent out engine hoists. And don't bitch because your mom can't afford something for you... wtf.

you can always install the engine from the bottom with nothing more than a couple jackstands a floor jack and a wooden pallet. I used to do it this way when I was younger and didn't own a cherry picker....lol.
Actually they come out of the bottom easier than they do from the top.

Yea im going to pull it out from the bottom anyways but dose it make a diffrence that the engine that im getting is from a 97 civic and its a d16.

Nope, it doesn't matter. If you are worrying about the intake manifold, don't worry....you can use ANY mpfi intake manifold. It would be the easieast to use an 88-91 si manifold. But you can get away with any 92-00 intake manifold, with the 96-00 civic ex manifold being the best choice. With the 96-00 ex manifold, you will have a few unused sensors. You will also need to add and IAT sensor to your intake pipe because the obd2 vehicles had it in the intake tube instead of the manifold itself.
If you decide to use the 92-95 intake manifold, everything will plug in just fine. You may have one extra Evap sensor on the back right of the intake manifold which is not used.
If you use a 92+ throttle body, you will have to reroute your map sensor plug to the throttle body, because the 88-91's had it mounted on the firewall.
What ever you choose, it doesn't matter, as they will all work. But, stay away from the 96-00 d16y7 intake manifold. It is crappy in design and is designed like the 88-91 dpfi manifolds, with the extra two injectors.

yes it will. But, why would you want to do that? Is this just supposed to be a replacement engine? If you slap on the dpfi manifold, you're not going to gain any horsepower with that motor in there, it's basically the same motor as your d15b2, horsepower wise.

Yes i get what your saying but if i use the intake manifold that comes with the engine wont i have to change over from dpfi to mpfi and obd0 to obd1..Also dont get me wrong but dosent a y7 only have 100 Hp and d15 has 92Hp well im not gonna try and race anybody and also this summer i want to work on getting a b18c1 anyways but please tell me if the y7 intake manifold would make a diffrence and yes i know if i want to have a b18 im goning to have to change over to mpfi.

yes, the d16y7 has a little more than 100 HP, but if you use the d15b2 intake manifold, it lowers the HP to like 95 HP. You don't have to convert to obd1 to use a newer intake manifold. You just have to convert to mpfi. OBD only refers to the ECU and engine wiring harness and distributor. Just because it is an obd2 manifold doesn't mean you have to convert to obd1 or 2, just plug in the sensors that your obd0 ecu is looking for, that's all.

Is there anyway that i can move my transsmission back without taking the axles out of the transsmission..Thats all thats holding me up is seperating the block from tranny..So any suggestions would be nice.

Lol...you have to remove the axles and tranny bro!

u sure about that cause there already separated just not far enough..All im going to do is take the axles out the rotors and then move tranny back and im good to go .Im going to do it today.

you're seriously making things 10x harder for yourself. Just remove the 3 mounts that hold the tranny on, and the shift linkage...trust me.
