68 Coronet

I am working on a 68 Coronet that is owned by a family member. The car has been garaged for many years. I am having all kinds of problems finding parts. We just want to get it running agin. Can anyone tell me any place to find parts such as carb rebuild kits, starter or starter parts, oem filters and tune up parts, ect. Also can anyone give us an idea of the value of the car. This car has never been apart, still has original paint,top,wheels, just as it was bought new. It has a 426/2 4s, 4 speed, no power or a/c. It has no rust that I can find but does have a few very miner dings. the big problem is it's been sitting for so long. Thanks for any help.

You say you are working on a 1968 Coronet with a 426 Hemi and 4-speed, all Original?!? I hope your family member knows just how rare and valuable a car they have. I have an old car club aquaintence who is the original owner of a 1969 Hemi Roadrunner and is must likely connected with sources of the parts you need. Send me an e-mail at "[email protected]".

You could pay off the house, put the kids through college, buy a boat, things like that.

Here are a few #s. First of all, the 426 was only available in 68 in the coronete R/T and the coronete superbee. Not in a concertable on either one. Is yours a convertable? If it is you may need to check numbers because according to the book it was not an option with a convertable. Her are the #s for both cars starting from low, average, then high retail. The R/T is $40,040 - $70,208 - $138600. Superbee is $39,215 - $68,943 - $136,620. These are according to NADA. Sounds like a sweet machine. I asked about the convertable because you mentioned an original top. If it is then match the engine numbers to the vin#. The book shows no option for a 426 in a convertable. If it's not original motor it still has good value, but not like original. Of course real value is what someone is willing to pay. If you do list it for sale, you will do best to list it nationally in some Mopar Specialty listing. People like Jay Leno buy these types of cars and don't mind paying for them.

[email protected] you tried NAPA? You can still get nost of the parts you are talking about from them. The carb kit shouldn't be a problem either.

Thanks for all the raplies. No it is not a convertable. It has a black vinel top that is originle, yellow in color, wheels match car color with small hub caps. It looks like granny's big ole sleed untile you raise the hood. The car is as it was bought new and I am even looking at the owners manual. The only peice that I can find missing on the car is the glove box latch, and yes I need one of those also. I will try to get my son to help post pic this weekend so I can be more precise to what we have. Right know we are just wanting it to run again so we need to find parts.

Well it's either an R/T or a SuperBee. There should be emblems on it.

I will give you a quick lesson in interpreting your VIN. Lets start from the beginning:

W - This is the car line. They used W for "Dodge Coronet"
S - This is the model. They used S for their "Special" or R/T model
2 - This is the number of doors. 2 means "2-door"
3 - This is the body style. 3 means "hardtop"
J - This is the engine code. J was used for the "426 Hemi"
8 - This denotes model year. 8 means "1968"
G - This indicates the final assembly plant. G means your car was built in St. Louis, MO
The remaining 6 digits are the sequence number of the VIN. With a sequence number of 188627, your car was number 88627 off the assembly line at the St. Louis assembly plant during the 1968 model year.

According to this VIN, your car is a 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T, 2-door hardtop, equipped from the factory with 426 Hemi engine. You got a genuine Hemi car there, my friend.
