I heard this line somewhere and thought who ever thought that up is the master.
To secure peace is to prepare for war.
I'm pretty sure it was a metallica song but I forgot so.

i have to disagree.
when i hear that, i think of the US's policy on Iraq.
which i also disagree with.

The thought is very old, the particular line I'm thinking of is something like:
"He who desires peace prepares for war."
Think thats in the Bible somewhere, don't know for sure.
Essentially it's saying that given humanities violent nature, anyone seeking to live in peace need be ready to defend that peace. Doesn't matter if the world is 99% pacificists, that 1% will try and take it peace away from you for whatever reason they deem worthy.
As for the modern take on this, I guess that would be that as long as there is people under tyrannical rule, impoverished and abused, there will be violence. As long as greed controls the worlds assets there will be conflict, because many in power around the world find that easier then comprimising. That violence tends not to be contained, it spills over into the rest of the world. It's kind of hard to apply to a particular situation like Iraq without getting into the politics. We have a section for that, it need not spill into other parts of the forum.

The band Machine Head has some lines in the beginning of their Supercharger disc similar to that.
"In times of peace, you must prepare for war", and "In times of war, you must prepare for peace." The track is called "Declaration".

Hey have any of you played call of duty 2. Every time you die you get a saying quoted from war. In one level I got quite a few quoted from people such as Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill etc just different variations or twist of the one on this forum.
Hey HKS_Man whats up with the Nazi thing in your sig????:frown:
