hey all, i am in the market to buy a new vehicle. I have been eyeing the jeep wranglers lately but I wanted to get a first hand opinion from peopl ewho actually own them, instead of getting a bunch of steam up my ass from a salesman. I currently own a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500. I was wondering if you all had it to do over again, would you buy the Jeep Wrangler again or would you buy something else. I don't really know all that much about Jeep. I have always been a Chevy or Ford kind of guy. I was wondering about handleing, power, if they are a good towing vehicle, things in that area. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've owned quite a few vehicles in my time. The Jeep (Wrangler, or CJ) has been, hands down, the most fun out of all of them. You dont get one due to its handeling, or towing capacity. Ya get one just to go out and have fun in. Weather it be to just take the top off, and cruise around town, or to take it off road and see what can stop it.
What are you wanting to tow? You now have a Silverado, I wouldnt expect to "safely" tow anything too heavy. Nothing larger than small boat. Allthough, I'm sure some that like to push the limits will say I'm crazy.
If I had to do it all over again, would I get one? Absolutely, I'm on my third Jeep.
I started out with a 78 CJ7, and drove it until it blew up... literally. Sold it, and got a 92 Wrangler, drove it until it died (4 banger). It was going to take too long to do the engine swap I wanted, so I sold it. Ever since then, I've been kicking myself for it, and just last year bought a 95 Wrangler, that was exactly like my 92 for the for the exception of having the 4.0 HO.
This one's not slipping away. It's my weekend, fun vehicle thats paid for. I have an Avalanche to cart the family around in on rainy days...

X2 what Penguin said.
A Wrangler is not a good option for towing. I think they are rated to tow 2000lbs, and that is truely the practical limit. As for the handling. Again, there are much better options.
The only difference between a happy Jeep owner and an unhappy Jeep owner generally boils down to one word (EXPECTATIONS). If you dont try to turn your Jeep into something its not, you should be very happy with it. Theyre really not very practical, but they arent designed to be.
Would I buy another one?: Let me put it this way, I wouldnt be without one. They're fun as he!!. Thats what they are designed for and thats what they do well.
