diagnostic codes?

i dont remember where i read it but somebody on here had said that if you turn the key to on (not start) three times and leave it on the third time one of the lights on the dash will flash patterns which are codes for somthing and i was just wondering where to find out what the codes mean

I think it was me. The light is the "MIL" or "CHECK ENGINE" light and you might find the code meaning here: http://www.iequus.com/obd_def.asp or try Allpar.com or buy a Haynes manual.
