Question about Tokico Illumina's

I just installed a set of Tokico Illumina's in my 99 Civic EX. What I was wondering was that I needed to grind down the back shocks in order for the control arms to clear enough to bolt the shock back in. Did anyone else have this problem? Please let me know. Thank you.
