WEll last week I was putting the timing belt back on my car and I got it on and timed and turned the cra over by hand about 2 timesand then I relized that I'm an idiot and had the exhaust cam off 180 degrees, but I luckly didnt hit any valves. Then I posted what happened yesterday were my car just died and I didnt know what happened, well I checked it out today and the bolt holding the intake cam gear on loosened up and it sheered the dowl pin right off the cam so the gear would spin but the cam wouldnt. At that point I started to get worried because I spent all that time on my car and I ended up bending all of the intake valves. Well I looked closer and the cam stopped in such a place where all the valves were shut, I did a compression test and NO BENT VALVES!!! I was so happy you couldnt imagine, talk about luck huh

Talk about luck.

Me being stupid and this being my first motor rebuilt ever. I put apart my car, and forgot to turn the cams to their timing marks and didn't realize it till way after the fact. So there the head sits with no timing marks adjusted. Luckily I couldn't get the car started and had to take it into the shop and only after the fact realized that I hadn't done it.

hahah, well I mean maybe once or twice a day. I have to go pick it up from my old house on account that I just moved.

And hopefully, hopefully I will be picking up my GSX from the shop tomorrow.

I am excited.

I agree your lucky, i had the ecaxt same thing happen to me about two years ago. The crazy thing was i was revving around 5 grand when the dowl broke. I coasted to a parking lot and got it towed home. After doing compression checks i found out nothing was bent! Unfortunatly this fall i had the large bold holding the harmonic balancer/timing belt pully back out. That resulted in crushing all 16 valves and ruining the head! So....my lesson learned...put tons of locktite on that bolt, and retighten it every couple weeks! Pr Ricer....were you able to get the rest of the broken dowl out to replace it? or fdo you need a new cam?

I had one of my friends drill a small hole in the center of the dowl pin and we screwed a screw in and pulled it out.
