is this a cobra?

do all cobras say "COBRA" on the back? becuase there's a car that goes to my school w/ the cobra badge on the front and doors,, but it says "MUSTANG" across the back bumper. just curious if some cobras came like that or he just krazy glued on some badges (which'd be pretty ghey imo). haha thanks :)

btw the car looks like it's at least a 2000

According to my catalog....no, but it may be and he may have just put a different rear bumper on it, although, I don't know why he would. The catalog says that the 96 & up Cobras do have 'Cobra' embossed in the rear bumper. Sounds to me like he badged her up. So that's my 2 pennies. MM.

You may be wrong to call it a fake. The 99 Cobra rear bumper said Mustang and Cobras did not get the band aid till 03. However there are many Fobras out there.

Note the SVT badge has Cobra under it. 1999 was the only year the SVT badge said Cobra this was done due to the rear bumber saying Mustang rather than Cobra.

I take it that its the new edge body style (aka 99-04) so it could be a 99. What does the rear spoiler look like this or the one above?

This one was used on all 01+ Mustangs other than the 03/04 Cobra. The one the red Cobra has was only used from 99-00.

Then it has been removed. I have never seen a V8 Mustang from the factory without one except for the Bulletts.

If its the same color as the one in the pic you posted its a fake. Dark shadow gay was only used 0n 03 and 04 Mustangs.

the rims arent the same just the spoiler (or lack there of). this car had ugly ass chrome rims.

were the taillights amber at the bottom or all red [see above pics to know what i mean]? you posted a pic of a base v6 that is the same body style as the 99 cobra posted so im not sure why u said the red one looked older? did you notice a hood scoop or not? no wing could be custom ordered from the factory i know of a couple 03s that were because the wing is stupid looking

thats why i was asking because if it had amber it wouldve been more likely to be a cobra (most ppl wouldnt switch those out) if it was an 03/04 and converted to a "mustang" bumper similar from the new edge style...well thatd be just stupid.

well u never know why someone does something, maybe he has a 01 cobra crate motor dropped in; at one point they were very cheap when a company got ahold of the motors supposed to go in the 00 cobras that were never made they were a hot item.

They did make a 00 and even a 02 Cobra but they were all shipped to Australia.

I thought the '00 was the only one actually made in Australia, not '02. I know the '00's were made there for sure, I was on a tour in the niche line at the Romeo Engine plant when they were assembling the motors for the Aussie Cobra's in May '00 at the SVT Experience.

'00 they cancelled the run due to needing "the fix" on the '99's, and '02 they had no run due to re-tooling for the debut of the "Terminator" '03 Cobra.

Anyway, back on topic, this car if it is a Cobra will have a few telltales. Brakes will say COBRA on the fronts and rears will be VENTED. The '99 Cobra was the first year the spoiler was an option, the car could be ordered without one (so could a GT) It will say "MUSTANG" in the rear bumper if it's a '99. The hood would look just like the '04 V-6 hood, the scoop indentation is reversed. The front bumper cover is unique to the '99 and '01 Cobra and is IMHO the meanest looking bumper for those cars...Also on the interior look for COBRA on the steering wheel and for

'99 the color options were Electric Green, Ebony Black, Rio Red, and Ultra White. Not sure about '01, I know Ultra White and Black, not sure what shade of red they used, they had like 3 different ones in '02.

Bottom line, if you look at the car, if it's a New Edge Cobra, it will have a V for the 8th digit of the VIN (that's the engine code). That's the tell-all between a real and fake cobra.

yea but only a handful vs the thousands that are usually made. there were quite a few motors with no cars to put them in.

yes i would be willing to bet its just a GT, and you can get a spoiler delete, i have seen a few of them, if its not a 99 cobra (which says mustang on the back bumper) then it could be a 01, or maybe hes not a ricer and was tring to down grade and keep people thinking it was a GT, ya never know, but unless its a terminator you will take him anyways:(
