Tracking Difference

I have a 1999 Suburban 454 K2500, it seems my front tires sit wider than my rear tires (same size). I've heard that the manufactures put a narrower axle on the rear and that it causes problems with steering, towing, etc. Is there a spacer that can be added to help this? Has anyone else come across this?
