Just giving an update, not that anyone really cares but I'm bored so deal with it. Swapped over to carb from TBI today...new Holley intake and 650 carb, distributor, etc. Used the Mallory 3-port with return FPR, in-line pressure gauge....she's running at 5.5 psi and there's black smoke coming out of the exhaust in the back. If she runs too rich, it's black. Too lean, and it's white smoke. The carb's secondaries are pouring fuel....I went through an entire tank of gas in one day, just driving around making sure the thing was running right...roughly 30 some miles. I emailed the guy who sold me the carb and he's cooperating (thank god)....but in the meantime...Second, there's a plug/sensor with 3 prongs sticking out of it hanging from god knows where right behind my oil filter. Where does it plug in? I think it's something with the trans. My RPM's wont go above 2500...even when I floor it....could that be the little plug? I also need a new trans kickback thing...the little green plastic piece. Can't find it anywhere. LIFE.
Never gonna pass emissions, thanks carburetor.

Thanks! I wish the mechanical aspect would match the cosmetic. lol I tried to drive her to work this morning and my RPMs still wouldn't go past 2500 but now my speedo won't go any higher than 25! I can hear her revving but the car won't go any faster. I'm getting pretty frustrated.

if it's running that rich, STOP RUNNING IT!. Otherwise you're dumping gas into your oil, washing it off the cylinder walls leaving you with no friction protection at all, and then you'll be really kicking yourself when that brand new motor has to be made into a six pack of pepsi.
The secondaries are dumping? Is it vacuum operated?
what did you do with the TPS sensor harness, that's what i think your 3 pronger is.

The TPS is for the computer to determine the position of the throttle blades, hence Throttle Position Sensor (tps). Which is pretty much useless now.
Do you have the spec sheets for the mtotor and ref. chart for the carb or is that what he;s working on with you. I t soulnds like you have the wrong metering rods in there or something.

Alright well I don't know anything about that. And what's going on when the car lurches shifting into Drive? I mean shifts HARD....rpms are only at 10.

The reason that your speedo won't go over 25 might be because the VSS isn't working now that the tbi is gone. Did you ditch the whole computer and sensors when you made the switch? That would have been a bad move cause you torque converter lock up is controled by the ECU, if you don't have that then I could see you having some shifting problems.

Now that I think about it your biggest problem is probably the TV cable bracket. A TBI TV cable and a carb TV cable are the same length but I'm almost 100% sure your going to need a different bracket. You might have to convert your speedo to a manual geared one instead of electric. Not quite sure how to get your TCC to work though...
