sluggish93 88olds question for you buick pros

my problem with the olds is when it heats up to op temp it get so sluggish it takes 10+ seconds to get up to 50 :( it sounds like the car hits 2nd gear by 30mph then 3 at 45 i dont know when 4th kicks in. but if i drop the car into first and take off its got most of its power back but not like it used to have :( i was thinking a cloged cat, fuel filter, fuel pump, and its also giving me a tps code every once and a while im lost and i miss my babys performance. the car is the 3.8 with only 44534 miles on it (bought from old couple drove it on sundays) lol someone help me !!!!!

Check your TPS with a digital meter. You should have a consistant increase or decrease resistance without any jumps.

You also might want to replace the O2's. The O2's come into play when the engine is warmed up. They play a lot on telling the computer how much gas to give the engine.

The "old couple driven only on Sunday" cars are subject to have clogged cats! They seldom get the engine warm enough to go into closed loop, and the cat never gets hot enough to function properly, so therefore they will eventually clog up.
The throttle position sensor takes the place of the accelerator pump on the old carburetors. The TPS tells the computer that the throttle is being opened or closed to give a momentary change in fuel delivery. If the TPS has a glitch it can cause a hesitation or a jerking action. The best way to test the TPS is with a lab scope to see if there is a drop out of voltage as the sensor is moved, volt meters are not fast enough to catch most glitches. Voltage will range from about .5v with throttle closed to about 4.5v with throttle wide open.

Like Max said, be sure the fuel system is giving good pressure and unrestricted flow through the filter.
