Rust

I have noticed that I have rust starting all underneath my 98 Silverado. ON the frame, exhaust, and inside of the wheel wells. ON my 98 s-10 there is no rust, and I took it easier on the Silverado as far as driving in rough conditions. I have never even taken the silverado to the beach, but I took the s-10 lots of times. I have been researching all the different rust stoppers and preventers. One of my main questions is, is POR 15 worth the money? What are your suggestions as far as what products to use to stop the rust? or should I just sand it all off and paint it?

por 15 works wonders... i used it on my floorboards and it was actually hard to scrape off with a screwdriver. its amazing stuff. make sure that if the spot you paint sees sunlight that you put some other paint over it, since it is reactive to U.V. rays from the sun. to paint por 15 though requires extensive prep work, like stripping off all of the paint where you are applying it and using marine clean and metal ready to prep the surface (sold thru por 15 website)... make sure with the metal ready that if there is a lot of white powdery looking residue left over that you apply more metal ready and rinse it off really good to there is not a lot of residue.

that sounds like a lot of work doesnt it? i suggest that if you are just looking for a long-lasting quick solution, sand the surfaces to be coated to scuff up the paint and then apply any type of bed coating... its like regular undercoating on steroids. the regular stuff stays softer and chips easily while the bed coating stuff gets rock hard and is virtually indestructable. it looks pretty cool too... i suggest if you want it to look glossy that after the bed coating dries, in spots like the wheelwells and the frame where you can see it when looking at the truck, you spray some gloss black over it, like on the frame and stuff... make sure you dont overspray or something on the outside stuff it would be a bad thing lol

jveik if right...POR 15 rules, but it's not the easiest stuff to work with. In addition to jveik's suggestion you can also try a cheapy alternative to see if it does anything for you. Stop down to your local TSC and get some farm and implement paint. It comes leaded and unleaded(and of course if you pick leaded, be careful with it). Anyhow...this stuff will stick to everything, covers really well, and does a great job of sealing in rust. I shot the frame on my Tahoe w/ it and it looked great. I used the spray cans for sake of ease, but you can get it in pints & gallons and brush or roll it on if you want. MM.
