hello all, once again im left racking my brains trying to find the best solution for my car. I have recently bought a p10gt saloon which prior to me buying it,already had a new sr20de engine dropped into and it. Im having serious performance problems where it cuts out at 6000rpm, it should go higher than that to 7225rpm or close before it redlines!
i have had suggestions that the ECU might not be the correct one for this engine, fuel pump problems, and alot of other stuff,
can anyone help me please, before I give up and put a gtir engine in it???
kind regards, uk based

Ok, odd one this. can you look and see if you can see the engine number and code. (will be on the front of the block by the gearbox) is the engine a RED top or BLACK? the chassis number would help loads.
Will need to know to try and find out wont replacements have been done.
if you are unsure which engine you have just let me know where the oil filter is, should be able to let you know from that. (P10 sr20 is on top by head.)

it is neither a red or black top, the engine number is sr20, that looks like its been scratched in, the oil filter is on the top left near the block??
sr20de, red or black top should tell me that its a gt, however doesnt perform like one??, how weird is that??, c#
could it be a limiter or an ecu problem??

It could be that they have fitted a standard SR20 out of a SE or SGX. Our market never had limiters fitted. if they have fitted a standard engine it could be the ecu is still for the GT, whic may give you some problems.
Other than the lack of power and a short rev out is there any other problem with the runing of the car? have you had the car checked on diagnostic machine?
problem is the GT and the standard sr20 should preform around the same, my eGT and the wifes SE are very closey matched on the open road.
i would be looking at getting it checked at a nissan dealer with consult and see if there is any fault codes before you go any further.

now thats interesting, its nice to know someone knows what theyre talking about!!!
what should the ecu look like for my eGT???, if i run diagnostics on it, will it show i have the right ecu or not?? what really should i be looking for when i do the diagnostic check?? maybe i can try to find out whether thats the problem or not!!,
apart from me losing power and the short revs, the car runs perfectly fine, however im losing sleep over it and its not pleasent feeling when a civic or golf pisses on you!! lol !!
i really appreciate your help m8, thanks

Hi again. you may not see any difference between the ecu's. the best way to tell is by part number, should be on the ecu.
if you manage to get the fault codes let me now would be interested to see what they are. If you need any more info on the codes let me know.

i had a diagnostic check on it an the knock sensor come up, i also have the ecm part number if that helps - 23710 - 83j01, the knock sensor cant be the reason why im having problems can it???

Hi, yes the knock sensor can cause your performance problem. The knock sensor is there to detect engine knock. If the sesor detects a knock it will retard the ignition timing to prevent engine damage. If it is faulty as your sensor is it will retard the timing all the way giving you lake of power.
Not a nice job, would recommend you let a garage do it. The sensor is located below the inlet manifold under a main water pipe in the block.
The ecu number you have is for a eGT sr20.
