From another forum, a person claiming to be a BMW mechanic in Australia:

http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5483/66ex.jpg

"I have worked on this Mclaren F1 a few times over the years, however this is the only photo and it is a bit old."

"Oil service, replaced the fuel tank, Appeture seals ( door seals ) , new steering wheel.

Little facts. You have to take the engine out to do an oil service, and the tank is made of kevlar fabric and is like a giant fuel bag. Also the coolant lines run through the engine mounts."

Don't know where that idea came from.
You change the engine oil just like you would in any other dry-sump car.

I'd hope that a BMW dealer would put their most senior mechanic on F1 duty, and not a 20-something year old.

This is #009. Peloton made a guess that it might be owned by Barry Fitzgerald I believe?

Yeah it is, if I know one F1 its that one.
Ian Parkin used to be the Head Technition at BMW Sydney and knew that F1 back to front, but seeing its down in Melbourne now I don't know who's servicing it, probably this guy helps out to some degree.

Perhaps the drain for the oil tank isn't accessable whilst the engine is in the mono.

Somebody (who should know seeing as how hes pictured in Driving Ambition :D though they mispelt his name! ) once told me it was only a handfull of fixings and the engine/transmission/rear end came out quite easily. Sadly he now lives in South Africa so I cant exactly ask him about the oil tanks.

Most exotic sports cars are like this dew to most exotic cars racing heritage, where they need to change out entire engines and such in a few hours.

Perhaps the drain for the oil tank isn't accessable whilst the engine is in the mono. There is no need to remove the engine or anything silly like that.
You drop the rear undertray and can get at the drain points. There are several of them - four on the block, one at the filter, one at the sump tank.
