2 Months Ago My 2000 Malibu Started Having A Neutral Flare In 3rd And 4th Gears. My Mechanic Ran A Diagnostic On It- No Codes. He Suggested It Might Be A Problem With The Computer, But Recommended A Second Opinion. The Dealer Said I Needed A New Transmission With A $3000 Price Tag. After 2 More Opinions I Replaced The Transmission With A Used One. Problem Is I'm Having The Same Problem With This Different Transmission. What's The Likelyhood That It Really Is The Transmission? Any Ideas What The Problem Is?

Has anyone done a full scan with a trans function scanner to look at solenoid operation and slippage errors and yes the used trans could have the same problem.

I agree with Max, you need to scan the for trans codes, as it could be a wiring, ECM or neutral safety switch issue.

I doubt the dealer did a full scan- I'll see if I can convince them to do that this time

When I drive up a long hill and keep the accelerator level the car has a shudder.
My RPM's are only fluctuating about 100.

at 55mph the RPM should be around 2k. If you accelerate from a dead stop can you feel the car shift through the gears ?

I can feel my car shift from 1 to 2, and I think 2 to 3, but not to sure. When I get to 5o mph, and I lay off the gas, to keep the speed, then reapply the gas, to maintain speed, it feels like my motor is going to drop.
I got a friend, who owns a shop, to look at my car this weekend.
If you have an answer, let me know... :banghead:

Ok guys- I took it to another dealer who did full scans- nothing.
They cleaned the mass air flow sensor and that worked- for a week. Now its back. Any more ideas?

Ok did they check for tcc operation and tcc slippage on a trans function scanner?

To add, it is not a matter of codes but to eliminate or confirm a trans problem, the tech can command and confirm tcc operation and slippage errors for both o/d and tcc.
