Hi, I wanna add a turbo to my 93 GS-R motor but it's really expensive, but my question is this. Would it work if I went and found a turbo from an old surpa, corola etc...(my auto teacher got a turbo from an old supra celica) and buy the intercooler, etc... and put it onto my car.

would it work>????? if I got the tubing right??? would I need some kind of electrical conenctions??? plz help.

thanks

yes it would work. all you gotta do is get pipes. as for electric stuff, no need.

Well, you don't HAVE to have electrics, but I do recommend an electronic boost controller from Greddy or Apexi. The Apexi unit is VERY NICE, but expensive!

The hardest part to get is the turbo exhaust manifold. You realize you could only run like 5psi of boost do to your high compression ratio, and if you dont already will only be able to run premium gas. As for parts you'll need a bit, it would be a fun project.

1. Turbo manifold (no clue, but new there like $400+)
2. Turbocharger (Ebay $50+)
3. Bigger exhaust (Custom)
4. Fuel pump and/or injectors (Ebay)
5. Apexi AFC or the like (Ebay $200+)
6. Intercooler and piping (Ebay $50+) piping would need to be custom
7. Blow off valve (Ebay $50+)
8. Turbo air intake (Custom)
9. Boost controller (manuals are like $20) (Ebay)

I would also look into getting a wastegate with thick flanges

can somebody explain to me what I would need to do to hook it up and get it working???

Would any of these turbos work????

Turbo1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1842069313&r=0&t=0)

turbo2 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1842989763&r=0&t=0)

turbo3 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1842959473&r=0&t=0)

turbo4 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1843198862&r=0&t=0)

turbo5 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1843290591&r=0&t=0)

does it have to be a specific turbo or can it basically be any except for the Rotary engine ones????

Thanks

I called around some Auto wreckers and found some turbos' but my question is,
Would a turbo made for amercian cars work on my integra???
Would the other parts be compatible with what I get???

How much is 5 psi of boost???

Is there any site on the net that explains how to mount it and get it all set up??? and get it working????

sorry to be such questionable, but I wanna find out how to do this cause I love doing and messing around with the engine.
thanks

a turbo is a turbo. a turbo from a ford 7.3 powerstroke engine can be used in a 1996 honda civic. the only thing you'll need is an exaust manifold. you can find one from revhard for about $500. make sure you get the b-series manifold. if it's too much for you, you can go to a muffler shop and have them custom make one for you.

5psi is about 34.01psi of the atmosphere pressure:p jk. 5psi is low enough to run on your stock engine. although they could be stuffed with more psi, 5-6 psi is usually the standard boost of many kits. u should be fine with 6psi.

Thanks. But if I would get a ford 7.3 turbo, do I need to get the ford exhaust manifold or do I get the acura one???

Last question:

what kind turbo would you recomend me to get???

Not including the new ones, a turbo that I can get off of basically an autowreckers, but I would like your input on which one would be the BEST to use.

And on a properly set-up turbo system 1psi (pound) should equal about 10-15hp, so 5psi should net a 50-70hp gain.

I would get a small one that because you can't run that much boost and it will give a better spool up = less lag.

The manifold is basically just a couple tubes that hooks the spot where the exhaust leaves the head to the spot where the exhaust enters the turbo...

You would need to get a manifold made for your motors head, if you took one off the ford engine, it probably wouldn't bolt to your head...

Also, correct me if im wrong guys, but dont turbos from different manufacturers have different shaped/size areas where they bolt to the manifold? He would need to make sure the turbo he gets matches up the the manifold he gets...

a T3 turbo from some old Saab. they work good enough. get the manifold that is for your engine. theoretically, a T3 should bolt right on to the B-series exaust manifold. if you don't want to risk it, get a muffler shop to make one for you. they will cost less than name brand manifolds. the T3 has quick spool-up times and has the potential to make lots of power, but the price on one is pretty expensive.

u can look on ebay and try to find some old porsche, volvo, saab, etc. cars. i was just showing an example of the ford 7.3 turbo how they can be used in a civic, etc. i didn't mean its the best one to go cuz the time it takes to spin one of those things is forever (you'll need lots of power in order to do so)

I think the turbo on my car is also a T3, look for a wrecked 280zx turbo at a junkyard, pull the turbo off it for cheap :)

I think our man needs to learn how a turbocharger is setup to begin with. He doesn't quite understand how a turbocharger helps increase power. Click here (http://www.automotivearticles.com/index.php?action=section&sec=2) for some good articles on how a super/turbo charger system works.

I choose to go with the Turbo from a Ford 2.3L, which I belive is from the cobra/mustang. It works well with the integras, and it has better performance then other turbos, with a small wastegate allready with it.

thanks for all the answers, this was verry helpfull.

thanks agian to all.

you should look into a first gen mitsubishi eclipse turbo, 14B, with T-D05 flange. the can efficiently put out up to like 20 psi but they spool a little slow.

You could also get a 2nd gen eclipse turbo a T25 which spools very fast.

both of these turbo's are a very cheap alternative to the large T30 (Ok not that big but large enough)

You will need to get an adapter for the manifold to the turbo. Get a t2 or t4 Turbo off ebay, Get an intercooler if you are not on a budget. People say you don't need an intercooler if you are pushing low psi but its still good to give you a denser charge. Go to a Muffler shop and have them custom mae a down pipe. Make sure they cut and weld peices together and not crush bend the piping for you will increase the restriction on the exhaust and increase spool time. Get a type of Fuel management system to work with the turbo get boost controller to make sure you are always in control of how many psi you are pushing get a blow off valve to release air when the throttle plate is closed. I would say you are looking around 600-900 bucks easily. Good luck!
