as a fellow sentra owner, i am planning on sellin it and gettin a 00+ celica GT. ive read that the only big diff between the 2 is the 6 speed, the compression with allows the gts to be more beefier. is there anything that i should be aware of before i buy? or is the 97 gts a better platform to run mid-high 14's on just basic intake exhaust. i know about the gts, but one with faily low miles for the year, 00 = 60k, and for the price of under 10k. plus me being under 18 makes the insurance go up, way up...any help would be fine. thank you...

the best platform for runing mid-high 14s is a 00+ gt-s 6-speed. it will already run high 14s witha good driver, it not only comes with the 6-speed but has 40 more hp and lift. the second best would be the 97 gts u mentioned. it is slightly slower than a 00+ gt(because of weight) but has a better engine that is more responsive to mods. the 00+ gt can run what you want with a turbo(same same 97gt-s), w/o turbo you will need a decent amount of mods.

the only thing u'll hate about the celica is the visability. u can't see s#$% out the back. there is hardly a reason for having a rear veiw mirrror. other than that it is a great car and they sell lots of simple bolt on mods for it. so u can get a few easy cheap horses out of it as well. it is also a cop magnet. i think i got pulled over more times in a week in the celica than i ever have and that is quite a few times. i also wasn't extremley impressed with it's handling. it is good, but not great.

ive driven one b4 (00 gt), its a little stiffer than my sentra right now and i like it. i dont see how it would be a cop magnet, since the car will not be red, if i find one red, its gettin painted. Visability out the bask really isnt a problem since i just usually raise out my seat to look back any way. any thing else to look out for on the 97 gt-s when i test drive it beside rust and normal wear and tear?

no the 97gt-s should be more reliable than the 00+. you dont see many major mechanical complaints out of those cars. theyll easily go to 200k+ miles if taken care of.

There was no '97 celica gts. They stopped making the gts model when the 6th gens came out in '94. No celica will get you to mid/high 14's with simple bolt ons except for the '00+ GT-S 6spd, and the turbo alltrac.

I don't reccomend buying a 2000 model year because they are really problematic. I'd buy a late 01 because most of the bug were worked out. You will still have to replace your lift bolts if it hasn't already been done. I've had my 2000 for about 3 months and I'm ready to just drive it into a tree or something just to stop the damn squealing. As for handling, the GT-S is very nimble. Especially if its been lowered. I've never drivin anything that handles as well as my 7th gen. Also If you are on the throttle alot, you might want to klook into gettin a LSD as it is kinda hard to keep the car in a straight line when you are accelerating.Especially when the lift kicks in. Hope this helps.
