Well i have a 91 grand prix 3.1L and for the past coulpe days wont start. I will go to start it up an it will sound like it is trying to turn over but wont completly turn. When it does turn over it will run fine until i turn it off an then wont want to start upagain for like an half an hour. A person at the gmc dealership said it is the intake manifold. im not really sure what an intake manifold is. so if any one could help me. let me know

Welcome to AF!

The intake maniflod is the part of the engine located between the heads. On current vehicles, that are fuel injected, the intake manifold allows air to flow into the engine while the injectors put fuel into the cylinders. On older engines the intake manifold was responsible for distributing air and fuel to each cylinder from the carborator.

Based on what the dealer stated it sounds like you have an intake gasket issue however, don't take their word for it just based on your describing the issue to them. Take the car to a mechanic and have it properly diagnosed. This sounds more like a fuel pressure issue due to a bad fuel pressure regulator than a problem with the intake manifold.

Good Luck!!

I agree with GTP Dad. The 91-93 Vin-T 3.1's (the engine in your car) didn't have the same intake issues as the newer Vin-j and Vin-M 3100's. I assume that the starter turns the engine over, it just doesn't start, correct? If that assumption is correct, I also agree with GTP Dad's diagnosis. It sounds more like a fuel delivery or no-spark situation. How long has it been since the spark plugs and wires were changed? It could be as simple as needing a tune up. You'll need to determine if spark and/or proper fuel pressure are present when it doesn't start to narrow down your options.
