I am in high school and on a limited budget, I found a 85 corvette that I really like, it has 76,000 miles on it and is in pretty good shape for how old that it is, I was wondering if the 85's have a lot of problems, because I wouldn't be able to afford that much on repairs.

no ones going to bite on this??

They have problems with wrapping themselves around trees....they really like trees for some reason. I wouldn't advize getting one. tree's and cars meet, money signs suddenly appear.

Honestly, C4's are great cars, but as with anything car related, 20+ years old, be prepared to through a lot of money at it. You may not need to, but its always a possibility

I have an 85 also. I think its a great car. I've got it in great shape and only drive it in the nice weather. the only advice I can give is if your still in school and are looking at a vet is have you made a call and checked on insurance prices if your on a limited budget.

I'm a sophmore, and I have an 85. We paid $5,600 for the car in great condition. (considering it's 20 years old) We've put about $2,000 into it. We got a glass targa, new speakers, Flowmaster exhaust, new door panels, new steering wheel, and replaced the window ribbon.

There is no such thing as a C3 84 or 85. Those are C4s.

I think a later C3 (like 77-82) cost around $7,500-9,000. Somewhere in there. Here are the generations. They didn't make a 1983 if someone says it's an 83 it's either an early 84 or a late 83. (depending on the body style)
C1 53-62
C2 63-67
C3 68-82
C4 84-96
C5 97-04
C6 05-06

That's the price now! Why would I give you a price from "back in the day"? I'm only 15 years old. I have a C4, but looked for a C3 for a while. They aren't real expensive. What did you think they cost?

If you buy a Corvette at that age you'll probably kill yourself. Those things have lotsa power.

Seriously, your first car should be a slow one. If your first car is slow, then when you get a fast one later, you'll really appreciate the fast car whereas if your first car is fast you won't appreciate it as much as someone who used to have a slow one.

Just my $0.02.

^ Or you'll just have to get an even FASTER car!
