01 Gt Engine Swap Q's

Well i'm new to the Celica world and have a few questions before i dive into a project. I'm looking to get an 01 celica gt for cheap but in need of some work. The engine in the car runs right now but burns almost a quart of oil for every tank of gas! So right now i'm looking to either have this engine completely rebuilt top to bottom or just go out and buy a 2zzge engine to drop in. I would prefer to do the engine swap if it's possible.
My first question is will the 5spd in the gt bolt up to the gt-s engine since they came with a 6spd? Secondly are the engine mounts similar since it's basically the same engine? Also what kind of wiring and electrics are going to have to be replaced with the new engine? If there is anything else i need to know about doing something like this I would be very thankful for the info. thanks

The celica engine bay is the SAME in both cars and so the 1zzfe and 2zzge engine have the same mounting points. The swap is so easy and can be done in a matter of 2 days if the people know what they are doing. The 2zzge engine also bolts DIRECTLY onto the 5spd transmission in your gt. This is accomplished because toyota used essentially the same housings for the 5 and 6 speed trannies. So if your going to be using your 5spd tranny all you will need is a gts (2zzge) flywheel and this is also a good time to upgrade your clutch if you have the money. So assuming you have a 2zzge motor with the complete wiring harness and manual tranny ecu and 2zz flywheel. I would also reccomend getting a gts passenger side engine mount which is the only part which is "slightly" different. I say this becuase the difference is only to the number of screw points used in the mount and you can probably make the 1zzfe mount work. This mount is located behind the passenger side headlight. So assuming you have all these things we can begin the swap. First drain all the fluids and get the car in the air. Next pop off the wheels and axles. Disconnect the battery and remove it and its tray from the engine bay. Next pull off the top to the fuse box located in the engine bay and pull the fuse panels up becuase underneath these is where the whole wiring harness plugs in. Unplug the wires that go to the wiring harness and set them on top of the valve cover. Next pull the ecu and is case out of the engine bay. After you have that out disconnect the shift linkage from the tranny and be careful not to crimp them. Now its time to disconnect the power steering pump and a/c compressor. Just disconnect these things and set them aside that way you wont have to worry about the fluids or recharing the ac unit. Next disconnect the fuel line. There is a spot on the firewall where this disconnects very easily. Just follow the fuel rail in order to find it. Now double check to make sure everything is disconnected from the engine and there is nothing holding it to the car besides the motor mounts. The engine and tranny must now be pulled out. Once these they are out disconnect the tranny from the motor. Now reconnect the tranny to the new motor using the 2zz (gts) flywheel. once this is connected drop the motor and tranny carefully back into the engine bay and connect the motor mounts accordingly. The spots are exactly the same on the motor and you are reusing the tranny so they are the same also. Once you have the new motor in the wiring harness just plugs back into the same spots where you unplugged it before. Reconnect the ac and powersteering and refill the fluids. Replace the ecu with the new one. Refill all the fluids and pop the axles back on and your good to go.
All in all this swap is the easiest i have ever worked on and is very straightforward. Basically pull one motor out and drop the new one in. Plug and play stuff. The only problem you will have now is your tach only reads 8k rpm and you will be able to rev to 8350. So as a recap all you need is the following
2zzge motor
2zzge flywheel
2zzge wiring harness
2zzge passenger motor mount (reccommended but optional)
2zzge 6spd ecu if your car is standard
your exhaust will not bolt up correctly to your new header but will come close a good exhaust shop should be able to make it fit.
and yes the alt and power steering can be re-used
