E-Brake light stays on

My e-brake light stays on in my 89 tercel. I know the brake isn't on, and I had the cable replaced a little while ago... the light was off for a little while but now it's back on. I checked the switch under the e-brake lever (tried pressing it just in case it wasn't pressing all the way) but that didn't do anything...

What else can I check

the switch its self is probly bad. just bypass the switch or get on from junk yard.

That light is not only for the parking brake. It will come on when there is a problem with the braking system.
Check your brake fluid level. Some cars are equipped with wear sensors that will cause the light to come on.
If there is a leak in the system the light will come on.
