Decals over decals

Does anyone out there have experience with applying a decal over an already applied (and dry) decal.

After reading MPWR's decal replacement tips, I was insipred to create decals to replace the ones in my Tamiya F50 kit, which I do not like the color of. Only thing is, I had already applied a couple of them .

Now I want to cover them up with the new decals but don't know if I should try to remove the applied ones or just apply the new one over them.

Does anyone know how the decals will react if they are layered?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Removing the existing decal is easy as putting scotch tape or masking tape on it and pulling it off. Unless you've covered it with clear.

No worries. Decals over decals is not a problem- otherwise CF work like on my F50 would not be possible- they have to overlap somewhere. The only problem you may have is if the decals you've already applied are of a significantly different color than the rest of the area you're decaling- so if the new decals are a bit transparent, they may show through the old decaled and non decaled areas (make any sense?). Like CADguy said pull them up if you need to, or paint them over with another color for a new base color (gloss black is good for CF). For kevlar work (like on my F40) it's hard to come up with a background color close enough that it won't show a difference with overlapped decals (and SMS kevlar is kind of transparent)- so I'm putting a double layer of kevlar decals down. One for an even base color, one for a final finish. Time consuming, but it looks pretty good.

I applied directly over given that the carbon decals I was using were not transparent at all. I worke rather well.

Gotta work on the template creation though, the custom replacement decal I made was a little off :banghead: .

Hopefully it will be more precise when using the unapplied originals as templates with the photocopy method MPWR described.
