I have a 98 base model 4 door neon. Every time I close the door after driving around for a while, I get a little static shock when i close the door after parking and getting out. Has anyone else noticed this with their neon, and does this sound like a deeper electrical problem, or just the general result of living in a dry climate. Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly welcomed.

i get shocked getting out of the car all the time during the winter, and my girlfriend says the same thing happens to her in her civic,, i highly doubt there's any electrical issues with your car. if you dont want to get shocked then just touch your arm to the metal part of the door outside briefly and then close it with your hand and u shouldnt feel a thing :grinno:

thanks for the advice! i've heard that getting some sort of strap that hangs from the frame to the ground will also ground out the car and stop the shock but i thought maybe the problem was a little deeper. i'm probably just a little paranoid of car problems :screwy:

It's quite common and nothing to worry about. I'd forget about the strap, waste of money.

haha i can't believe they actually sell that  but i'm just as paranoid about my car,, i get concerned when i hear the slightest rattle, altho that's probably mostly because i drive a GM.

Its gotta be normal. Happens all the time in my SRT since the day I bought it. I actually had that little rubber shock thing hanging of the back of my old neon. It didnt do a dame thing but look dumb.

:iceslolan well thanks for all the advice. Really the reason I asked about this is that i used to live in the yukon (near alaska) and I can't ever remember gettting a shock from my car then i move down to the middle of BC and my car starts shocking me. I thought maybe something wasn't grounded but if it happens to everyone. Then i'll stop thinking about it. Thanks again for the advice.
oh and just out of curiosity do i have to upload pictures to a website in order to display them on this message board?

Do u have a stereo system? If so, it is the capacitors in the AMP releasing the excess power through the ground. I had a Jeep G.Cherokee that did that everytime after I got my stereo. Your car is fine, and your body can take a lot of electrictiy before it knocks u down and out...DONT sweat the small stuff and life is easy...
