Hey guys, I just bought a 1997 Lincoln Town Car Executive Series. It has about 79000 Miles on it and everything runs perfect. The question I have is that I want to convert the single exhaust to a dual, Is that a possibility and how much would a good exhaust system cost? It is a 4.6L engine and when I look at Mustangs that have the same engine and are cranking out 260-300HP. Do you guys think I can get 260HP out of this car or would that not be possible? Please give me links to websites where I can buy the exhaust and other upgrade parts to get some extra ponies out of the engine, because I know it is vert capable of some decent horsepower. Thanks in advance.:)

convertin you car to dual exahust should be simple. when the exhaust comes out of the motor it comes out as dual exhaust, however there is a Y pipe that converts the dual into a single exhaust pipe out the back. my town car is a 95 and dual exahust was standard on all models. your car should already have two cadallitic converters. all you would need is new exhaust pipes and another muffler also, with you car having that much power as a mustang, you would probably need flowmaster exhaust and shorter headers. however i wouldnt recommend it. the town car motors are made basically to pull all the weight. plus, its a luxury cruiser why would you want to go fast? however, dual exahust will improve your gas mileage and your car will run better. you will also get more horsepower and better performace.

I did a little research into performance mods for a Town Car while I borrowed by father's 1997 Executive Series a few weeks ago. Yes, the ES model came standard with single exhaust. The Signature and Cartier series Town Cars came standard with dual exhaust. Like the previous post said, you have twin headers with twin Cats connecting to a Y-pipe. All you need do is remove the Y-pipe and install new intermediate pipes and the muffler and tailpipe for the left side. All parts are readily available.
I found a site on the web, blueoval.com, where they sell programmable PCM chips for you car. I also found links to sites where you can purchace Police Intercepter intake manifolds and larger intake systems for the 4.6.
Another thing to look at is the differential. The TC's come with 2.7:1 gears. You can upgrade to say 3.3:1 gears to give your car quicker off line acceleration. Although, doing this will take away a little mileage at freeway speeds.
Good luck with your TC and let us know what you find. My father's TC should become mine someday and a little knowledge will be helpful.

nice site i've been looking for a chip for my town car. also, an upgraded differential is a really good idea i should have thought of that. i put a police intercepter intake on my town car off of a 95 crown vic intercepter and wow! the performace is so much better. now if i can just get it to stop governing at 107...:grinyes:
