learning to drive

I've only really been driving my 3kgt actively for about 2 1/2 months. this is the first car I learned to drive stick on and now I feel comfortable driving it for the most part but sometimes during traffic and starting from lights it makes me nervous because other drivers expect you to go as soon as the light turns green.

--anyway, I was just wondering how long after you started driving stick that you really felt comfortable in all situations on the road? :rolleyes:

I'd say bout 2 weeks. I wasnt nessecarly fast or good at it but I could get along no problem.

You just have to understand that its not the end of the world if you stall out in the middle of an intersection.:iceslolan

I know of people who have driven a stick for 10 years who still stall it regularly so dont even worry about it.

Once I got my liscence, i'd say. Which is pretty much sixth months, I started on my permit with my Stealth and.. it's stick and my mom took me out and taught me. It's weird having your mom in the sports car with you when your trying to drive.

Haha, I bet... luckily I started driving in a '95 Escort (88hp)... and worked my way up... lol... but my mom did have to drive the Stealth one time... her comment was "I hate it... it's too low to the ground, too loud, and way too fast..."

The escorts only putting out 88 HP! Wow, I'm not even sure that thing would move if it were an auto. So was it putting like 60hp at the wheels? LOL

yeah... it did move... just took awhile to get there... lol... I had the car to 117 MPH... it had low HP but good gas mileage... and was a non-interferance (timing belt broke while driving... slapped a new one on and kept trucking)

I have driven stick for 7 years and I still avoid some intersections where where some Civil engineer in his infinite wisdom put in intersection at the top of a hill so you are stopped on a 18% gradient, in the rain, in the middle of traffic where some bus decides to see how close he can get to you bumper without touching.

No... I can't say I am comfortable with that yet...

I have driven a stick for about 6 weeks now and I am comfortable with it but I still want to avoid those type of situations, but at the same time I try them because if i keep avoiding them I will never learn. right?

I've been driving stick for about a year and a half now. I am 18 years old and about a year and a half ago I went to my dads for dinner. I was driving the touareg and he was driving the vr4. I have previously driven stick 1 time before this for 15 minutes. I had to go get the vr4 serviced so my dad gave me the keys to the car and I asked him if he was joking; well he wasn't. On the way back to my mom's house their is a huge steep hill under an overpass that i was on and I was sweating so much because I was not use to using the clutch on steep hills with a million cars behind me. Luckily I was fine, I just used the parking break. I still think about that and laugh. Anyways my 95 vr4 is still for sale with 75k(black).

^^ How much and where are you located?

Car is located 15minutes outside chicago in riverside,illinois. The car is in very good condition and it recently had a new clutch put in(300miles), driveshaft mounts, tie rod, front axels, coolant reservoir, and wastegate solenoid. The only thing that needs to be replaced sometime in the near future would be the master cylinder and the 2nd gear synchro is getting rough. I am looking to get around 11k, but the price can be negotiated.

I hate those steep grades... but if I ever get stopped on one... I roll the car back and forth to keep people off my ass... it pisses them off, but also shows that I'm a stick... so they'll leave me alone...

here in seattle, the hills are stupid

so i've been drivin a stick for about 5 years, and have known how to drive one for 8 years, and i will avoid really really steep hills

I think it is part of all bus drivers' job description to see how close they can come to small cars surrounding their annoying yellowness. well, school bus drivers at least.
