Distributor Cap Mount Cracked?

2000 Blazer LS 4x4. I can understand plastic for the distributor cap, but why would GM make the lower portion that it screws into plastic as well? Dealer did my intake a few weeks back and the next time it rained the truck was misfiring. Went to check the cap and found the front screw was not fastened as the plastic screwhole had split on the lower side. Dealer looked at it and said it is common on these trucks. They think it may have happend when the tech did the intake and was screwing the cap back down. And then I find out that the plastic mount on the distributor is not replaceable without buying the whole distributor. They have a new distributor on a block laying around in the shop and are going to swap mine out with that thankfully. Just be careful when you are tightening down your cap.

Yeah, happened to me also. I ended up having to JB Weld the cap onto the distributor. I can't believe you have to replace the entire distributor for something like that, its ridiculous isn't it? Chevy told me $400 FOR THE PART ALONE. I giggled and hung up the phone politely

I did the same thing, didn't even know it was plastic. I wondered what that "crack" noise was. I will replace at a WAY later date when it is easy,,

hey i have a distributor where one side the cap screws into is striped out the other attaches fine in lou of buying a new distrb... Does the zip tie method actually work to where you wouldn't have misfiring?

The dealer swapped mine out yesterday with the one they had in the shop. What a cheap piece of crap. There is so little plastic for the screw to hold into it is no wonder these things split and then fall apart. I'm going to smear a bit of JB weld on the new one on each side of the screw holes to reinforce the plastic so it doesn't happen again.
