I'm having problems with my shifter cable on my 98 Tahoe. First it was hanging up down in the lower gears, and then I discovered it had a lot of corrosion in the cable end. Now I put it back together and it moves freely, but it won't shift all the way up into Park... Yes, this is kind of necessary! If I don't set the E-brake it rolls away!

I just thought this Silverado forum may have some clues, as they all share the same shifter/trans setup I believe. Is there any adjustment within this assembly anywhere? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Can you disconnect the cable and shift it into part using a screw driver or pliers?
That would tell you if it is a cable issue or internal transmission problem.

Yes, it definitely shifts into Park with the cable off. It even shifts into P with just one finger pushing the lever forward while my wife shifts the column lever up. It's just a hair off that's all. I don't have a manual or diagram, so I can't see how it is adjusted though. There is a white plasic retainer clip of some kind in that cable end, but it doesn't want to budge.
