98 Metro Transmission question

I have a 98 Metro 3 cylinder with a bad 5 speed. What year transmission will fit. I was told that the older ones will not work. Thanks in advance.

one way you can find out is to call the dealer parts department and ask them what transmission will work on the 98' if its a good dealer they should be able to tell you if that doesn't work you can overhaul it using a Haynes manual. good luck :)

I think you can use any 3 cyl trans from 89 to 2001. I have a 99 Metro that I put a trans from a 91. works fine and bolted right in.

Technically, any metro/swift/sprint/firefly trans will work from 89-01. Yours being a 98, you have 13" wheels. So you'll want to find a 95-00' trans from a 3cyl to get the proper speedo gear and final drive ratio.
