Because they're good cars you idiot. I take it you've never driven a 2002 Intrigue. 215 hp, 230 lbs.-ft of torque in a 3300 lb car means fast. And then mix that in with exceptional handling and luxury at a great price and you get one fine automobile.

I wouldn't worry much about about the original creator of this thread... It was some tosser with nothing better to do than ruffle some feathers. I guess it's a good think I had nothing to do but clean up after him! Anyway, I have been "intruiged" since I first saw the vehicle. For a sizable family sedan, it's very attractive.

Yup, some people have too much free time, anyway.........I think the old Aurora is too wierd for my liking, but the new ones are very nice looking cars (Though I believe most think the other way around :finger: )

History is an inseparable part of the Oldsmobile tradition.
The 1966 Toronado was the first big-ass, tire-smokin' front-wheel drive. Yes, I know there was the Cord back in the 30s, but they tore up so often, it was hard to go on a long trip.
The vast majority of cars on the road today are front-wheel drive. They owe everything to the first successful front-wheel-drive luxury hotrod...the Toronado!

the '66' Toronado is sweet I'd love to get me hands on one.
The classic Aurora's Design lines were derived from the '66' Toronado

I prefer something a little smaller... like mine!
1973 Olds Omega
350 Rocket
Turbo 350 tranny
Edelbrock intake
Edelbrock 750 carb
Lunati 3/4 roller cam
Crower Crank and rods
Wiseman flat top pistons
Hooker super comp headers
flowmaster 3" single chamber mufflers
All in a hatchback coupe!
Talk about all kinds of fun! And something you rarely see... when was the last time you saw an Omega hatchback?

Why do I drive an Olds? BECAUSE THEY'RE EXCELLENT CARS!! I have
been with Olds since 1961, and have owned 4 of them within that
time, and one of them, a 1972 442 W-25, lasted 29 years! My current
Olds, a 2001 Aurora 4.0, turned out to be a MUCH faster runner than
I had expected, so I am very pleased with it!
General Motors is out of its f****** mind for cutting Olds!!!

The number one reason we drive Olds is: Oldsmobile has proven to the world that their cars, though fading away here soon will be around for a very long time. The most exciting, reliable pieces of machinery ever built. Even look around at the 80's Cutlass', compare them to the 80's Regals and Montes, the Cutlass still holds a greater value out there. - Has anyone ever realized that there are Corvette clubs, Mustang clubs, even the Good Guys club...... But none of the other clubs compare to the OLDSMOBILE CLUB OF AMERICA! One Club for all models of Oldsmobile, just Oldsmobile, and any Oldsmobile, willing to help eachother out any day, and just get together with their state club for a small or large show on a nice sun shining day. I don't just drive Oldsmobile's I live Oldsmobiles. I own a 69 H/O, 67 442, 92 SCX, and 95 LSS... I think a Bravada is soon to come.......

I drive Oldsmobiles because I think they are a great value, I have 2 Achievas and love them both, great cars that I picked up dirt cheap. Once the new Auroras start to drop into my price range, I will be upgrading to one.

Olds was also one of the first car distributers to perfect the FWD car, and therefore they've had a lot of experince making them.

I am new to the game. What impact does torque have on the speed of a car? Thanks in advanced.

I had never owed an Oldsmobile, untill I got one from an auction. It was a '97 Aurora that someone had abused and discarded. I almost have it purring like a cat now. The manuals that I purchased and this forum, have saved me big $$$$. I intend to install a nice spoiler(should have been standard) when I get some time. My late Dad who was an auto mechanic, started working on cars in the '40s. And his choice of cars was Oldsmobie.

I just recently purchased a 92 Toronado(my 2nd one, same color)..loaded with all the options. It feels good driving around in something really rare, especially having an Oldsmobile badge on it. I can remember goin to the auto show in 92 and droolin over the car and seein the commercial. t was that one black dude who used to do the Ocean Spray commercials back in the day....I remember him goin "Trofeo...Trofeo!!"..haha....
Come Back Olds!!....GM is better now..YOU CAN GO TO WAR WITH LEXUS NOW!!

why do i drive an olds?
ok, i own a 1992 olds eighty-eight royal, w/ the 3800 series engine. i tell you this car has the capability to smoke the majority of these losers prowlin the streets. the best part is that it's stock.
i have to admit, it does looks like a grandpa getter, but hell, she's one tough monster. not only is she heavy, she rides like a cloud, handles on a dime (tho she has quite a bit of roll in that stabilizer bar)
ok, get this last summer i got in an accident and here's what happened. i went off the end of t-section. the ditch goes down at about 60 degrees for about 16 to 17 feet, then at the bottom is a culvert. i felt the car lift up off the ground. she then proceeded to nose dive into the culvert. then the ditch goes back up and then theres open farmland. when i came to a stop, i was in the field, so i turned around, drove back straight up the wall of the ditch, and drove her home, like nothing had happened.
in the end i had to replace the radiator, and straight out the bracket holding it up.. pretty damn tough for such an inexpensive car

The first car our family had when we came to the US was a new, loaded '81 Omega Brougham. It was a great little car. We then needed a bigger car so we bought an '82 Custom Cruiser, loaded to the gills; an excellent car. When the Omega got totalled, we replaced it with a new, loaded '83 Omega ES2800 which was an even nicer car! (I still miss that car SO much!).
Years later, I remembered drooling over the DOHC 3.5L V6 "Shortstar" engine cutaway at the car show when they came out in the Intrigues and I remarked how I wouldn't mind having one. That was prophetic because when I moved out on my own and later my wife wanted a new car, we looked at all the popular mid-size sedans. That was just about the time when GM announced the phase-out of Olds. We stopped by the Olds dealer and saw a brand new '01 Intrigue GLS w/ PCS and the Bose stereo upgrade, which we got for $10K below sticker, and bought it on the spot. It's actually been a great car. I'm seriously considering trading it for a Mazda 6s but I just don't have the heart to let it go. We'll probably sell/trade it when it has 200K miles on it (it's got 60K miles now).

did you ever get close to an air force fighter taking off in a hurry, hitting the afterburners and you can only stand there in awe at the sensory satisfaction in your ears, teeth. and enjoy the vibrations of pure ,raw power from that powerful machine? An oldsmobile sounds like no other engine. It too, has that sensory satisfaction that makes the world seem ok again

i agree, there is no sound like a olds small block winding towards the red line, torque is plentyfull, i drive a ford ranger with an 87 olds 307 with the 200-4r trans, i like ford bodies, but its olds power that i love
