Intake Gasket and GM Reimbursement

After a $700 repair for the intake gasket leak and coolant flush on my 2002 Malibu, the dealer was able to arrange a 50/50 "goodwill" cost share with GM for me. As suggested, I then sent a letter to GM threatening small claims court for the balance and was offered another $200 for the repair making it 67% GM/33% me. I haven't accepted as of yet as I was curious if anyone has been successful in getting more, if not full reimbursement ouside of the warranty for this obvious manufacturing defect?

I'd take it and run. I tried for months to get some type of reimburesment for my '01 model.

Hey, gaspig. I just posted a note under another similar topic but thought I'd respond here as well. Check everything you can to make sure you don't have any other damage to your car. The lower intake gasket on my 02 Grand Prix was just replaced, and the engine died the night I got it back. Coolant had already gotten into the oil and damaged the engine. I do have an extended warranty that covered the gasket replacement - I'm waiting to hear if it'll cover the engine replacement. If not, I'll be coming to you for reimbursement advice. Good luck!!
