It got me again, ABS and Speedometer this time

My 2000 LT 4x4 Blazer did it to me again. This time I was driving about 40 mph when the speedo stopped working, the ABS light came on, and I lost drive power in D position. I turned off into a lot and coasted to a stop. The D position would not work again, so I shut it off and restarted, same thing. Dropped it down into L1 and it started moving, but with the speedo and ABS light trubs again. Odometer was not ringing up any miles also. I pulled into Country Buffet and went and had lunch and did some serious thinking about the signs and figured it had to be computur/sensor related. I walked down to a nearby Pep boys and bought a VSS sensor to replace. No dice, didn't fix anything. I got home yesterday in tranny "limp home" mode, 1st and 2nd gear only (manually had to shift between them). I later discovered it would shift, but at over 4000 rpm. I kept up with the manual shifting from that point on. I tried to keep the rpms down under 3000 on the way home.

Yesterday the forum was down and wouldn't let me log on to do any searches. Arghhhh!!! what next.... I manually searched titles thru 80 pages of history posts. entertaining...

Last night I tried unplugging and replugging every connector I could find on the tranny/transfer case. Nope, not it. I then pulled the front wheels off and tried to clean the sensors. Still broke. So it's off to a mechanic tomorrow morning. I hate using mechanics but this thing is making me think Toyota, Toyota.

So, a tally. Warranty work, front pinon seal (leaking again slowly), drivers seat back broke and battery (pos terminal cracked). My dime - another battery (ac delco cracked again at pos terminal), alternator, oil lines (replaced and starting to leak again), rear view mirror fell off, gas tank sending unit, drivers CV axel, fan clutch, and had to repair rear window washer (hose disconnect in lift door).

Just get me down the road thru the summer and end of year close outs will be looking mighty nice. I oficially give up on GM products. My wifes Honda is still going strong and the old 94 Accord we bought new is still going strong under my 16 year old.

Hey,
I understand your frustration in domestic vehicles as the new stuff is just plain junk. I read your problems and I'm shocked you had all that go bad on the 2k model as I have a 96 and I have definitely had my share of problems, but's that's to be expected from a 10yr old truck. I'm really curious as to what is causing your problem now..

If you buy foreign you'll be turning your back on America.. Were proud of our junk!!! LOL

Well, I hate when people post problems and then never post the followup as to what it took to fix them, so here goes.

There are three speed sensors on the 2K Blazer transfer case. One that you can see, the VSSensor, and one on the front propshaft (not the problem), and last by not least, the transfer case rear propshaft speed sensor and connector (BINGO!!!! we have a winner).

The latter is located on top of the transfer case, is identical to the VSS (they screwed out the bad and put in the one I took out of the VSS hole) and can hardly be seen from the bottom, unless you are in exactly the right spot. The connector had broken off the top of this sensor and let go. Now mind you, I was on dry pavement doing 40 mph, flat level driving. Maybe a dip, but no pot holes. It looked like it had been broken for a while and just worked its way back out. Still cost me $207.50 the diag and fix (all labor, since the codes didn't point it out.)

So it's back on the road again and running fine (the sound you hear is me knocking on wood) so far.

I forgot one other detail in the 2K Blazer history. Fuel injectors. Once cleaned out on GM's dime and once on mine in 60K miles. It has just over 70K on it now.
