Hello,
I had my fuel pump and gas tank replaced 4 months ago.
I kept getting this code every 1000 miles even before the new tank and pump, but just last week it comes back in about 40 miles after clearing it with the battery disconnected.
Where should I look? I checked the fuel cap. Purge solenoid?
I tried doing a search, but it isn't working right now.

OK, search is working now. Does anyone have a picture of where the evap canister and purge solenoid are?
I think I should check those.

OK, purge solenoid is in the engine compartment, but the charcoal canister is under the left hand side of the rear?

OK, i did a little check of things...
I used to get the p0446 code, and I could just clear it by unhooking the battery, well this one is not going away, even when I unhook the battery.
I checked all the connections to the cannister, and took apart this little airfilter thing that goes under the spare tire. I have no idea what it is... A pressure sensor?
I'm pretty sure a part needs to be replaced. I might just take it in.

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
any hole in the plastic lines can cause this code, or a bad sensor, purge valve, vapor cannister.

I have a 97 blazer LS and I had the same problem everytime I drove anywhere. I had a part replaced but I cant find the bill but the purge thing sounds the same. My mechanic told me that on my truck taking off battery does not clear the problem and is bad for the computer. since the change of the part and the gas cap the problem has not returned. I may be a female but I do have a good mechanic.

Hey I would like to know where the purge solenoid is also . I'm having the same problem with my 03 Blazer. I took it in and they said they tighten the gas cap and reset . !00 miles later the service engine light came back on.
