Hello all--Just Checking here to see if The Fill Plug on the NP 208 Tranfer Case might have a Reversed Thread Unlike the Drain Plug--I have tried the last 3 days getting the plug out using a 30 mm socket that fits loose--the 29 mm does not fit?--seems i need a 1 3/16 inch socket?--1 1/8 is to small and 1 1/4 is to big--I can't Imagine why this Plug is so Tight--I Tried Vise Grips--a 2 Foot long Cheater Bar and Air impact--Maybe a Hole Drilled in it with a Easy Out?? I am Afraid to use heat thinking I might hurt the Seals or warp the Case--any Ideals on the Solution other than a Total Grind Please

my 91 w150 has a 241 transfer case but it should be the same. it was a odd size nut and it is right hand threads!!! mine was a bit stubborn too. not much on any car has a left hand thread!!!

Normal threads . The plug is exactly the same as the drain plug. A 30 mm six point socket and a good long 1/2 breaker bar is all I can recommend.

You need a 1 3/16 socket or 30mm,get a six piont socket. You can get that socket at certain auto parts stores or Sears(Craftstman brand) and the socket is really easy to find.A 1/2'' breaker bar is recomended to break it loose. The 1 3/16 wrench is a differant story, hard to find.

If you can't get it off, take it to an oil change place and let them do it. They don't charge extra for tough plugs (unless their price sheet says so). I had some shocks on my car that I could not get off and did not think anyone could get off. I took it to pep boys and let them worry about it.
