2.2 ecotec takes 5.0qts. the filter is up top in the front of the engine. There is a i think a 23mm socket there, you need an extension to get to it. Also yes synethic oil is great for it. I am running Maxlife Syn in my car and it looks clean as hell. plus if you miss say 1000miles on the oil change you wont get sludge build up.

i know they make oil that lets you go 5000/7500 miles before changing, but im pretty sure youll need to change your regular synthetic oil just as often as regular oil

hand tight. If you overtight it you can risk strippping it and thats no fun

Not to hijack your thread but can you reach the oil filter with just an extension? I found where mine is but i wouldnt be able to get it off from here. Is it easier to get it off from under or over it and where is the screw/nut it uses to hold on? Thanks

well if you have a 96 cav it has a different engine then a ecotec. if you dont have that computer module in the way from the top you can use a band wrench to get the filter off. They started putting ecotec's in i think 1999.
