the national traffic safety coucil keeps track of recalls, so does carfax, but they are expensive. also, consumer reports tracks them. about 9 months after i got my truck, the dealership had to do a priority recall to replace the ignition switch due to too many electric fires in the circuit. i think it was 99-01 chev/gmc s10/s15/jimmy little blazer and envoy before the new body style in 02.
you can also run your vin number at gm web site, it's hard to navigate, but can be done. also, check with a dealership that has a half decent rep and just ask!!

Any idea on how many of these were made ( diamond editions ) in total and how many actually went to Canada for sale?

There is also another recall that some people didn't find out about. The rear lower brake lights are tied into the 4 way switch on the steering column. This connection is subject to come apart, and thus cutting off your rear brake lights. The recall replaces the switch and fixes the connection. The only way I found out about it was after a cop stopped me for no brake lights.

this was the first symptom of the recall i mentioned above. along with the ignition switch, the dealer replaced the hazzard switch also. before i got the recall notice, i used a pen cap to keep the switch pushed to one side. this does not fix the problem, just keeps the lights out back working. just get it fixed, thats the best and safest way.
