I'm pretty sure your Camaro has a GM 10-bolt.

Well all he has to do is count the bolts on the diff cover.

The Aussie 9-bolt was an option used in the B4E option and performance axle ratio cars with a 2.73 & 3.27 ratio. This option used the 7 5/8" ring gear, not a 7 1/2" used with the 10 bolt. Look at the rear cover and count the bolts on the cover, or look for a rubber fill plug on the rear cover, which would indicate a 9-bolt rear. I used a rear disc conversion from a 89 IROC 9-bolt, to upgrade an 87 9-bolt with the old ratchet style caliper. The 89 had larger disc and the hydrulic parking brake in leiu of the manual ratchet.

It’s 7.5 or 7 5/8 and you measure the ring gear, but it only matters if your buying gears. Everything except gears are the same on a GM 10 bolt 7.5 as a 7 5/8 axle.

If you want to be sure of what axle your Camaro has jack up the back of the car and look at the diff cover.

This determines?
9 bolts on the cover = 9 bolt axle. 10 bolts = 10 bolt axle. Etc, etc.

That's alot of money for a rear disc conversion. Have you tried looking at any junk yards or ebay by any chance?

9 bolts on the cover = 9 bolt axle. 10 bolts = 10 bolt axle. Etc, etc.

Um, the number of bolts that hold the cover on don't have a thing to with 9 or 10 bolt.

9 or 10 bolts is how many attatch the ring gear itself in for rigidity.

The Aussie 9-bolt axle has a 9 bolt cover, a GM 10 bolt axle has a 10 bolt cover, a GM 12 bolt axle has a 12 bolt cover and a GM 14 bolt axle has a 14 bolt cover.

With GM axles you can figure out how many bolts are on the ring gear by counting the number of bolts on the cover.

If you don’t believe me hear is link with a picture of a Aussie 9-bolt and GM 14 bolt count the number of bolts on the covers:

Well, that may be a strange occurance amongst GMs I haven't picked up on, but in general rule of thumb, counting the number of bolts for the cover has nothing to do with the ring gear bolts.
