We have a 1988 1500. Has anyone ever had the sending unit go out? I've never heard of one going out before. We saw little drops of oil under our truck and looked under it and seen a puddle of oil. It only leaks while the motor is running. How hard are they to change?

Pretty simple, just take off the old one and screw on a new one. If the sender isn't bad though, maybe try some sealer on it and see if that stops the leak or maybe it just needs tightened. Some vehicles require special tools for removing the sending unit, they make it easier but you may be able to get around it.

If you drive a chev. sooner or later you will have to replace them.
Not a big problem but.
Changing the goes a lot better if you have a oil pressure socket.
Your local parts house should have the sending unit and socket.
Good luck. And let us know how it goes.

The 1988 has two oil pressure sending units--one for the computer and one for the gauge. Search this forum for location of each.
