Is there any way to bypass the vats in a 3ed gen camaro? And if so can someone give me a site or tell me how to do it. And if i take my a/c system out of my car (92 camaro rs 305 tbi) will it effect the heat in the winter? or will it let air though or hurt any thing?

others can tell you how to do it yourself, but Im lazy and got my bypass form ecklerscamaro.com
You need to know what key code # you have first. Go to a chevy dealer and have them check it.
If you choose to get is from ecklerscamaro.com, you need to type 'security override' in to the search box and it will take you to the list of different code # bypasses.
I dont trust my electrical work, so I chose to buy this(knowing I probably could have done it myself) It takes like a min to install...just unplug one twowire bat and plug the bypass in its place(comes with directions) it will be like $30, You can do it yourself for like $2, but its much more work, someone else could tell you how if you want to know.

The only thing I can think of, is your defogger. Im pretty sure it runs off the AC.

take out the air conditioning . you dont need it anyway. unless you live in Mexico. It wont effect your heater functions at all or the defogger. i took mine out , everything works good.

ok, thanx alot. i will take it out later because i have to get a by pass pulley. But i should probly leave it in since it does get a little hot here in St.Louis and my car is going to be black soon. But that is what the windows are for. Thanx for all your help guys!

bag91 is right...the defogger does run off the AC.
I dont know for shure when the systems started running that way... it was some time in the 80's, I dont know for shure... You might want to dig deeper into this before removing the AC...
Is all the work of removing the AC system really worth it? I wouldnt think the change in weight would be that significant since most of the parts are aluminum...which is a big plus by the way since the pipes wont rust, unlike in some other cars(the pipes in our 95 Dodge Ram Van-Conversion are in bad shape and will all need to be replaced soon since you cant just sand em down and repaint em)
How much weight does would a 3rd gen camaro actually loose when you remove the AC components?

you would need a heater box to put on your firewall after taking off the AC components.

when you put the defogger it does engage the ac compressor, but it will still work without it, i've removed mine and installed an ac delete pulley and got a non ac heater box from ebay. it wasn't too difficult to do, and the compressor is rather heavy and is also a parasitic drag.

Do you mean the heater unit that came in the base model(those purchased without the AC option)? I heard somewhere that those are hard to come by...is that true?

cant you just disconect all the a/c and leave that little black box thing still on the fire wall and it be ok? my cuzin has a 85 camaro 305 and that is what he did.
