Hey there, im coming to the best source of car info that i know of for some engine swap info for my 95 LT1 trans am. My engine has alot of km on it and it has a 4L60E tranny witch isn't bad but i crave a manual. This winter im looking to do a motor swap but im not sure what i want. There is a guy in my town that can get prety much anything when it comes to corvettes so i was thinking somthing along the line of a vette version of the GM's 350. My question is what are the HP and TQ specs for some of the vette engines and if i do this swap what would be the best engine to try and get, also one that isn't imposible to find. Id just like to start with a 350 with more stock HP than my LT1 as a base for future mods. Also if anyone has or knows where i can find any infor on the swaps or the work involved in converting it to a manual transmission from the auto. I couldn't think of a better place to come for this kinda info, everyone has been so helpful here in the past and your advice and information is always the most accurate. Thanx alot for you time, im looking forward to your reply.

LSx series have a TON to offer.

It really depends on what your goals are.

Im just looking to get a good strong engine with decent stock hp and tq to start with and has the capabilities to be more. Future supercharger in mind. Do the LS1 engines from the vetts have individual coils for eacy cylinder?

Yes they do. 1998-2002 had the coil per cylinder design. Not sure about the 1997 Corvette.
Hell, the Camaro Z-28 and the Trans Am also had the LS1.

Awsome, so the LSx is the engin in the ZO6 vett isn't it? oh and i almost forgot OMG your car sounds nuts, man thats what im aiming for with there, it must have headers. Does your car have a 5 or 6 speed, and where im lookin to do a trany swap to, what would you recomend for a transmission. Also if i was to put an LS1 in it id have to convert it to OBD2 witch means the ECU would have to be changed, is it much work to do all this, I know its not gonna be a walk in the park but i have some help, my faters the master tech for carrol south shore GM so he knows what hes doin but id like to have as much of an idea of what im doing bofor hand as well. Again maaaaaaaad car man, Two thumbs up.

Sounds like you have zero idea what it takes to drop an LS1 into a car without it.
Helps when it is a car that could have had it, like a Firebird or Camaro.

My sound clip there was almost a year ago. Open headers with a cammed LS1. 6 speed manual. Which I have been considering exchanging for a strong automatic.

The LSx series contains motors from MANY different vehicles. Basicly any GM small block V8 is an LSx series. At least since 1998 I believe.
Hell, the block in my car now is outta the H2 or Escalade. Iron block 6.0L block.

What power goals do you have?
What kinda streetablility to you want?
Mileage matter?
Do you drive the car daily?

Thats why ive come to people that have experience for some help. Im not a complete retard i do realize that its not gonna just slip rihgt in and start right up thats why im askin if anyone has and troubleshooting tips or just any info in these types of swaps that may be useful for when the time comes. The car won't be driven daily but it will be driven on the street. Milage dosn't matter much. why are you ocnsidering a strong auto instead of the six speed too many problems? or just more efficient for race numbers?

Sorry, that came out wrong.

There is a TON of work other than just getting the motor to fit into the car. ECU, tranny, mounts, etc..

A strong automatic would net me much better times at the track. I have a 402 LSx in my T/A. Makes tons of power, but has trouble getting traction. Auto allows better launches and is much more consisent.

I took no ofence, im just glad that someone that knows what there doin is even giving me the time of day let alone sharing personal input on what to do. So the tranny you desire would be? somthing GM makes factory or somthing heavier?

Mr. Luos

It would be a built 4 speed automatic.
Not sure exactly which one.

Probably won't ever happen because I drive my car on the street for the most part.
I can get back to you on the tranny if you would like.
Crashing for tonight though.
