Swapping Engines

My dad currently owns a 1996 740iL (E38). It uses the old 4.0l engine, and he thinks it's about time it should be replaced. Would it be possible to swap that engine, for the newer 4.4l 290hp version found in the current 5 series without having to change the engine mount, tranny, etc.?
